A friend asked me the other day what my New Year's resolutions were. I had to admit that I hadn't made any. I usually make resolutions every year, and write them in my journal, but for some reason, this year, I had not. I thought about it for awhile, and realized that I would rather create some new affirmations and a new 90 day bucket list. I did both of these about a year ago, and I loved it.
Affirmations are statements about your life that you say as if they were already true. They are things you would like to see realized or achieved, even if they are not yet to that point. You write them down and keep them in a place where you will see them every day, and then you repeat them every day. Eventually, these things start to become true as you focus your energy and efforts on them. It might sound a little strange to you, but I've done it, and it really does work. Here are my affirmations for 2011:
1. I am a calm and peaceful influence on my family and all those around me.
2. I am a student of the gospel and I study it daily.
3. I make healthy choices that nourish my body and spirit.
4. I am a genuinely happy and positive person.
5. My state of well-being does not depend on how others treat me.
6. My body is strong, flexible and healthy and I grow stronger every day.
7. My comfort and self-esteem com from my God and not from other people.
8. I am of infinite worth and have a great purpose to fulfill on this earth.
9. My inner beauty matters more to me than how I look on the outside.
10. God is in control of my life, and I only control how I respond to the things that happen.
I also decided to make another 90 Day Bucket List. This is a list of 90 things that you would like to do, need to do or have always thought about doing but never got around to it. After you write your list, you have 90 days to do as many of them as you can. The last time I did this, I accomplished about half of the things on my list. It was really fun and challenging, and it forced me to do some things that took me out of my comfort zone or that I had procrastinated. My list isn't finished yet, and I have put some of the things I did not do from my first list back on my list for this time. I will share just a few of them with you:
~Learn how to make a rag quilt
~Go for a bike ride at Jensen Park
~Become better at making conversation with people
~Study the scriptures every day for at least 1 hour
~Make beautiful cupcakes
~Let someone else make all major decisions for 1 week
~Be at peace with myself, others and God
~Talk to someone I don't know
~Organize my file drawers
~Give an anonymous gift
~Simplify my beauty routine
~Create a yoga sanctuary
~Go to the temple by myself
~Laugh more
~Hike up to Ensign Peak
I guess the next item should be to finish writing my 90 day bucket list and get started on it! I am inviting everyone to embark on this 90 day journey with me. One of my good friends has decided to do it too, and I'm really excited to have someone to share my progress with. It will be so much fun if you do it too, and let me know that you're participating so we can encourage each other. It's a new year, so you might as well make a new you :)

This sounds familiar. I accomplished most on my list too . Now because you reminded me, I am doing this again. :)
